I have apparently signed up for Shaw's "Kuwaiti" level of internet service, so the blog will be sporadic until next Monday. Unless I can continue poaching off my neighbour's wireless system. Sorry kids, out of my hands.

"De Fault, the two sweetest words in the English language." - Homer Jay Simpson

Its nice when the other team doesn't have a full roster at Sunday Soccer. Oh, for those of you who don't know, this illustrious author is playing recreational (very recreational) soccer on Sunday afternoons at Grant MacEwan.

I won't lie to you, the quality of the game is somewhat suspect. In fact, I may be doing international damage to soccers reputation.

But anyway, the other team only had three players, so it ended up being a scrimmage. A scrimmage in which I scored my first goal in soccer since I was six years old, if ever I did score when I was part of that pack of kids that followed the ball wherever it went.

Yep. Kicked it, missed the goal (totally on purpose) and when the ball rebounded off the wall and came right back to me, I kicked it in the goal. With my left foot.

If there had been a crowd there, and if we hadn't already won by default, I'm sure I would have been mobbed by fans and groupies as I sprinted lumbered down the court and did a celebratory knee slide into my teammates.

But alas, there was no crowd, no groupies. I merely gave the goalie the finger, called his mother a Brazillian whore, and strutted back to my bench.

Such is the life of a soccer striker in a 48th-rate league.
